SCOUT is a talent development program in grades K-2 used to identify potential and ability across multiple areas skills and cultures. SCOUT students spend their time completing advanced work in all four subjects, learning geography, studying nonverbal measures, and expanding their vocabulary.
Depending on achievement, ability, and/or potential, SCOUT students range from one hour per week, to one hour per day in the QUEST classroom. Depending on their level of service (1-5), students will often spend time with a mentor from grades 3-5.
SCOUT students are selected using an observation tool. In addition, general education teachers have been trained in characteristics to look for. Using the observation tools, academic achievement, and characteristics observed, the GT Coordinator notifies participants of the SCOUT program.
